My grandmother, who has never set foot in New York, makes a killer cheesecake dessert. It is made with marshmallows and sour cream and is made in a 9X13, rather than a spring form pan. It is absolutely delicious. So delicious, in fact, that I once entered it in a Real Women of Philadelphia contest and secured a place in the Community Cookbook. Perhaps because of my contribution, there is a Philly Cheesecake of the Year contest. Now in it’s third year, the contest allows Canadians to submit their most decadent recipe for a chance to compete in bake-off in the Kraft Kitchens, with $5000 in prizes, a spot in the national advertising campaign, and most importantly perhaps, mucho bragging rights.
Of course, it is always best to check out the competition ahead of time. Don’t worry – it’s not cheating, just smart planning. You can do that by following @PhillyCanada and #cheesecakeoftheyear on Twitter. I’ve also been researching around on Facebook. I am not going to mislead you here, folks. The competition this year is going to be fierce. I am seeing every possible flavour combination and I tell you – if calories could pass through a computer screen, I would have gained so much weight that I wouldn’t be fitting back out my door right now. You’re going to need to get onto whipping up your creation. The contest closes at 6 pm ET on June 20, 2014.
