All right folks, here it is. THE book giveaway of the 2016 holiday season. It is the DK CanadaBooks Christmas Prize Pack. A collection of books for everyone on your list, valued at over $140. But first, read along for a bit to see why I love each one that I have included here on this list
Let’s begin at the beginning – Arm Knitting. I saw this demonstrated a few weeks ago at a sewing show. It’s definitely a craft that seems to be taking off. Essentially, your arms and hands are your knitting needles. You end up making oversized projects that are extremely comfy and cozy.
True confession – I can’t knit. I’ve tried and just never quite gotten the hang of it. This is unlike my ten year old niece, who is a knitting pro. This book is going to her so she can make me something warm this winter. No hidden agenda there.
E3 is the Pokemon master. His card collection spans every room in our house. I’ve watched a few of the cartoons with him and will be th efirst to admit that I don’t quite get the appeal. It looks like a pretty complicated game with all sorts of variables. For him, the Pokemon Visual Companion is sure to be a big hit.
Even with this book, I doubt I will be able to keep them all straight. I mean seriously, look at all of these creatures. This comes close to rivalling the number of relatives I have.
Something else I have never figured out? How to Play Chess. Again, all sorts of rules about who goes where and how. I know my kids will tell me that this book will help me, but I just don’t know.
Even with the extremely realistic computer generated 3-D graphics and this set of press out chess pieces and board, I have my doubts. I think I will let my kids share this book. Maybe if I bake them some cookies or something, they will have the patience to teach me how to play.
Now, the American Girl Ultimate Visual Guide stands on it’s own. Most American Girl books are published by the company and distributed through their website and a few select stores. The beauty of this book, along with the stunning photography, is that it is available wherever books are sold.
The American Girl Ultimate Visual Guide is much more than just a collection of pretty pictures. Part of what sets the dolls apart are the detailed stories and backgrounds around each character. This book is no different. Along with a history of how the doll came to be, the book discusses the level of research that goes into making sure that each doll is the best possible representation of the time period or culture she represents.
Gracie Thomas, the Doll of the Year 2015, almost made it onto my own Christmas wish list. The authenticity of the accessories for each of these dolls is phenomenal . You can even get a stand mixer for Gracie. If you need any help spending you money, this book boasts photos of all of the ‘extras’ for your dolls. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Stunning photography and in depth, accurate information, presented in readable size portions, are the hallmark of DK Canada’s books. The Horse Encyclopedia, available very soon, is no different. Not knowing a great deal about horses, I can’t tell you how wide the range of breeds covered is. I can tell you that there are A LOT of different equine covered.
Like the Timor pony. Apparently they are regularly used without a bit. As little as I know about ponies, I know that is one special breed. This book makes a great coffee table book, but also works well for new horse lovers looking to expand their knowledge.
