If you haven’t already, be sure to check out my post about Books for Foodies for Christmas. There’s another great package of books for you to explore. Right now, we’re going to get down to brass tacks for the little ones. That’s right – books for kids.
Kids have a HUGE range of interests and it can be hard to find them something that will hold their interest and still be relevant Here are a few selections from Raincoast Books that have made it to the top of my list.
OK – the Frozen Cookbook & Cookie Cutters Kit. I am pretty sure my younger niece is going to flip her lid when she sees this one. Hopefully my sister forgives me when she starts singing ‘Let it go’ on repeat. The recipes are simple enough that, with a little help, kids can mostly make them on their own. Nothing beats the look of pride when a young chef presents her family with a successful creation.
Fun Science by Charlie McDonnell Here’s a science book that is not aimed at little kids. No cutesy experiments that involve vinegar and baking soda to make a mess in your kitchen. Charlie has his own website where he explores cool science ideas and phenomena. I will warn you parents, though, there is an entire chapter on reproduction – everything from single celled organisms to human. For that reason, I’d recommend this for middle schoolers and up.
StarWars Lightsaber Thumb Wrestling Force Wars. That’s an awfully big title for a pretty small book. And while I have listed this under books for kids, I happen to know a lot of adults in my life that would also love this book. Each page gives you different rules of engagement and how to win a particular battle. May the Force Be With You.
