Tidit Thursday – Pollen Problem Resolved

Last week, around this time, I wrote that Goose had brought me home a beautiful Asiatic Lily and that, in planting that lily, I had proceeded to cover myself in icky pollen.

It should be noted that lily pollen is particularly groady.  There are some strains of Easter Lilies now being bred without pollen in them.  Fancy pants flower shops will actually de-pollinate your lilies for you.  This pollen has got staying and staining power.

So, when this happened to my beloved $5 Canada hockey T-shirt, I was pretty sure it was a goner.  However, several of my beloved readers made some very handy suggestions, so I took them.  And then added a bit of old laundry wisdom.  And voila!  My shirt (and my skin) were saved.

What worked?  A heavy dose of the new Resolve 2-in-1 spray.  It used to be called OxyClean.  Whatever the name, it does some pretty remarkable wonders on clothing stains.  This time, it took most of the pollen out.  Probably to a mostly livable point.  Resigning myself that this was as good as it was going to get, out it went on the laundry line.  Within a few hours – presto!  The sun had bleached out the rest of the nasty pollen stain and my shirt was as good as new.

And there you have it.  The tale of Resolve/OxyClean and some bright sunshine.  To be frank, I have had many of the kids clothes saved because of a bright sunny day.  And saving my shirt was quite a relief.  I mean, what was I supposed to do, live without my hockey shirt this summer?  Surely you jest…

Disclaimer:  Resolve or OxyClean or whomever makes this fabulous stuff have no idea who I am.  Loyal customer though I am, they have no idea who I am.  The sun, on the other hand?  He and I have a love/hate relationship.  I would love for my legs to look something other than ghostly white.  Mr. Sun, for his part, could care less.
