So, what are you doing to Family Day? Not going to the mall. Or a lot of other places for that matter. Given the sub-arctic conditions that are expected across much of the country, why not stay in? Better yet, heat the house up and enjoy the fruits of your labour. That’s right – cook with your kids.
Make it fun. Nothing complicated. Break out a cake mix and skip the scratch baking for today. The idea is to spend time together, not have to fuss over precision measurements. Employ some fun coloured tools, like this Trudeau Flour Sifter. What looks like work to you looks like tons of fun to kids. See all of them lined up there to take a turn? I wasn’t kidding.
Use a minimum number of dishes. Things like Silpats and heat proof spatulas that don’t come apart cut own considerably on clean up. Then you can get on to some other good stuff. Like eating your delicious creations.
Maybe you don’t want to get out of your pyjamas and just want to hang out on the couch all day. I certainly won’t judge. Or maybe the neighbourhood kids have descended on your house. Crack out this Cuisinart Popcorn Maker. We have this and our kids get a HUGE kick out of it every time. It’s like going to the movies or the carnival, but at a fraction of the price.
Fondue is not dead – my household is living proof. And it is a really social activity. Don’t worry if somebody double dips. You are all family and the heat of the cheese or chocolate is likely to kill off the bugs anyways. This snazzy Lausanne Copper Fondue set is so pretty, you will want to bring it out every weekend.
So, there’s some ideas to keep you inside with your family this weekend. What kind of plans do you have?
