Have you decided what you are giving dad for Father’s Day this year? Father’s Day will be here sooner than you realize. Mother’s Day is always so much easier to shop for. Flowers, a phone call, a handmade card, take her out for a meal. OK, maybe you should up the game on the card part, especially if you are old enough to have your license and could conceivably get to the store to buy a card. Regardless, there are options a plenty.
But what do you buy dad? There are only so many sets of BBQ utensils one man needs to own. And what if your dad’s interests include toys that are well beyond the regular budget? My own dad falls into that category. My sister and I wrack our brains every year to come up with something. There are a lot of options on a new tractor – how would we ever know which ones to choose? And then there would be the issue of how to wrap it up. We’ve decided skip the new tractor this year. DK Books has produced Tractor The Definitive Visual History, just in time for Father’s Day. If a new tractor isn’t in the works (or budget), this book probably is. The as always stunning photographs are accompanied by short, readable excerpts that chronicle the history of the piece of equipment that has single-handedly changed the face of food production. The book still very European-heavy in the models and manufacturers it features, but offers a wealth of relevant information nonetheless.
All of us are a kid at heart and Lego is virtually ageless in it’s appeal. Lego Architecture The Visual Guide is a more grown up version of everyone’s favourite plastic blocks. Re-creating some of the world’s most recognizable structures takes an incredible amount of skill and attention to detail. This book features short biographies of the creators, the original buildings, and the key elements behind each of the Lego version. This book proves that grown ups can have fun with little plastic blocks, too.
DK Canada is showcasing all sorts of book ideas so you can Make Dad’s Day this Father’s Day. DK Books are available wherever good books are sold.
