Books for Foodies #Raincoast4Christmas

I have a few more exciting book giveaways to share with all of you this year. And it’s a doozy. Raincoast Books is a Canadian owned book wholesale and distribution company out of Vancouver, BC. They handle some of the biggest names in the print industry – and a few names you have never heard of but really need to look into.  First up – books for foodies.
Books for Foodies Small Victories Cookie Advent CookBook Appetizer Ideabook Raincoast Books

The Cookie Advent Cookbook. Seriously, one of the best advent calendars for adults out there. If your family is in the habit of ‘shopping ahead’ like some of mine are, this will make a fantastic gift. Or stash it away (and remember where you put it) and surprise someone next year. Some of the recipes are classics, others are old favourites with a twist. A few are ones that are entirely new to me. There’s lots in there to appeal to every cookie baker.
Next – Small Victories. Foodie culture can be grossly overwhelming for novice cooks. Don’t ever feel that you need to create perfect Beef Wellington at an extravagant dinner party your first time out of the gate. Maybe a victory is a simple as a properly roasted chicken. Julia Turshen shows you what you can skip without skimping. For example – skip the ricotta and time consuming béchamel and go straight to creme fraiche when making lasagna. I’m particularly impressed with two other things in this cookbook. The first is the index. It is extremely laid out and definitely has the novice cook in mind. Big bonus points there. The second is one of the last sections, the ‘Seven Lists’. Here are lists of seven different things to do with food items like leftover chicken and canned chick peas – because we have all had those days where we stare blankly into the pantry wondering what on earth to serve.
And then – The Ultimate Appetizer Ideabook Except I have no plans to use it for New Year’s Eve or any other party. Unless you count the after school rush as a ‘party’ – I definitely do not and would like to know your secret. This book has 225 ideas, many of which will work well as after school snacks or could easily be modified so they will work. And yes – there are a TON of sweets options. This is a book you can pull out all year to find inspiration.
