In celebration of International Women’s Day, I am bringing you a chance to win a copy of In The Company of Women: Inspiration and Advice from over 100 Makers, Artists, and Entrepreneurs.
In contrast to How To Make It, In The Company Of Women serves as much more of an inspirational book, rather than a road map. Each woman was asked to answer a dozen or so questions, each one designed to illicit advice and offer uplifting words for the reader. The answers reveal some of the greatest joys and deepest fears of even the most successful entrepreneurs.
Accompanied by beautiful photographs of each of the makers in her own space, each interview is presented in a easily read-able question and answer format. The variety of creative outlets and work environments is astounding. Commercial kitchens, cinderblock ceramic studios, light-filled rooms filled with flowers and shiny things. Not surprisingly, the women themselves come from all walks of life and encompass every type of artist imaginable. Television hosts, chefs, former models turned activists. Potters, textile creators, authors. If you are looking for a virtual mentor, you will surely find her in the pages of In The Company Of Women.
There are some things you will not find between the covers of In The Company Of Women. You will not find suits and button shirts and high heels. These women are in the trenches every day, working their craft, getting their hands dirty alongside their employees. Another thing you won’t find is a definitive set of steps to follow or a clearly laid out roadmap to success. As any successful business man or woman can tell you, it’s all up to you and your path is your own to forge.
